Washington, D.C. (August 28, 2020) – Today, the Black Economic Alliance (BEA), a nonpartisan group of Black executives and business leaders, rallied with Reverend Al Sharpton and the National Action Network, the NAACP, National Urban League, The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, elected officials, and more at the Commitment March on Washington.

BEA Executive Director David Clunie, delivered remarks at the civil rights rally in Washington, D.C. and released the following statement: 

“Although it’s taken 400 years – plus 8 minutes and 46 seconds – there is increasing recognition that systemic racism continues to oppress Black people in every part of American life. We must also demand economic justice from our elected leaders and the business community. We have to fight for better work, wages, and wealth for Black people.

“We must continue to march with every platform we have — in the streets, in the halls of Congress, in corporate boardrooms, and with our vote — so we can finally achieve social and economic justice for Black people. Just like we’re showing up to march across America this year; we have to show up and vote. Make a plan to ensure your vote is counted well before Election Day.”
