CHICAGO, IL – On August 20, 2024, the Black Economic Alliance (BEA), a nonpartisan coalition of Black business leaders and aligned advocates, hosted “A 2024 Work, Wages, Wealth Agenda” panel on tangible and actionable steps to increase economic mobility in the Black community during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
The event featured Maryland Governor Wes Moore, TIAA President and CEO Thasunda Brown Duckett, Filmmaker and Founder of ARRAY Ava DuVernay, and Ariel Investments Founder and Co-CEO John W. Rogers, Jr. with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and Associate Editor of the Washington Post Jonathan Capehart moderating.
Panelists discussed efforts to advance Black work, wages, and wealth in the context of the 2024 election, which will have a monumental impact on the future of Black economic opportunity and prosperity.
“We are in the fight of our lives for the future of Black economic progress,” said Samantha Tweedy, CEO of BEA, who delivered opening remarks at the event. “But our path forward is clear: BEA is leading the effort to ensure that work, wages, and wealth for Black Americans is a top priority from Washington to Wall Street and everywhere in between.”
“Implementing a Black work, wages, and wealth agenda grows the economy and creates opportunity for all,” said Governor Moore. “I am grateful to BEA for convening leaders across sectors because collective influence and collaboration is necessary at this critical inflection point for our nation.”
