ATLANTA, GA – Today, the Black Economic Alliance, a coalition of Black business leaders and aligned advocates committed to advancing work, wages, and wealth for the Black community, released the below statement from CEO Samantha Tweedy on Vice President Kamala Harris’s Economic Opportunity for All Tour that kicked off yesterday in Atlanta, GA:
“The Black Economic Alliance (BEA) is proud to partner with the Biden Administration on Vice President Kamala Harris’s Economic Opportunity for All Tour as a critical part of our work to advance Black economic progress.
“BEA’s polling confirms that the focus areas of the Vice President’s tour, like increasing access to capital, investing in small businesses, and addressing housing costs, are the top priorities Black voters want elected officials focused on, and have high margins of support from all voters. These key areas are consistent with the solutions in the BEA Foundation’s recently released Policy Agenda to Advance Black Work, Wages, and Wealth, which outlines steps for policymakers.
“This tour is an important opportunity to bring the historic investments the Biden-Harris Administration has made in Black economic prosperity — including the lowest Black unemployment rate on record, 2.6M jobs for Black workers, the fastest creation rate of Black-owned businesses in more than 30 years, and more — directly to communities, and raise awareness of all of the Administration and partners’ programs available to help Black Americans buy a home, start a business, or pay down their student debt.
“We will continue to work with the Administration and all policymakers committed to advancing Black work, wages, and wealth, and we hope this tour sparks an overdue conversation about the fact that investments in Black economic prosperity and wealth expand economic opportunity for all Americans.”
