WASHINGTON — The Black Economic Alliance, a nonpartisan group founded by Black executives and business leaders, announced today that former Congressman Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) will join the growing list of top-tier 2020 candidates participating in the Presidential Candidates Forum focused on expanding economic opportunity for Black Americans.

“The Black Economic Alliance is thrilled that former Rep. Beto O’Rourke will attend our presidential candidate forum in Charleston, joining Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) and South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg as confirmed participating candidates,” said Akunna Cook, Executive Director of the Black Economic Alliance. “O’Rourke demonstrated his focus on key issues related to the Black community in 2018, and we are pleased to offer a platform to share his views about expanding economic opportunity for Black Americans. We look forward to welcoming all of the top presidential candidates to South Carolina next month for an engaging dialogue about the important economic issues facing the Black community, and how their proposed policies will make progress in the years to come.”

In addition to Rep. O’Rourke, Senator Booker and Mayor Buttigieg, the Black Economic Alliance has sent invitations to U.S. Senators Kamala Harris (D-CA), Bernie Sanders (D-VT), and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Vice President Joe Biden. To qualify for an invitation, candidates need to reach 3 percent of support among voters in early-state polls.
