NEW YORK – Gubernatorial candidates Stacey Abrams (GA)Rich Cordray (OH), and Ben Jealous (MD), and U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (VA) released the following statements today regarding their endorsements by the Black Economic Alliance, a new political organization supporting 2018 statewide and federal candidates committed to advancing economic opportunity for Black Americans.

“As Governor, I will work to strengthen our economy for all working people across Georgia, but there is no question it will take direct engagement and a strong vision for addressing historic imbalances that have hurt our Black communities in particular,” said Stacey Abrams. “I’m honored to have the support of the Black Economic Alliance and look forward to working together in the months ahead to lay the foundation for future gains for Black families.”

“Every American has a right to a good education and the opportunity to get a good job with a fair wage. This right has still not been sufficiently upheld and too many in communities of color have suffered as a result,” said Tim Kaine. “I am humbled and honored to receive the endorsement of the Black Economic Alliance and I look forward to partnering together to build an economy that works for all.

“As a civil rights leader and businessman, I know that building an inclusive economy through broad-based reforms will ensure all working people can provide their families with a better future,” said Ben Jealous. “I’m honored to receive this endorsement from the Black Economic Alliance and I look forward to working with them in the future to address the specific barriers to economic opportunity that Black families face.”

“This is a conversation and an effort that is long overdue – there is endless evidence of the historic and systemic inequities for African Americans in this country,” said Rich Cordray. “I’m proud to be recognized by the Black Economic Alliance for a lifetime working to level the playing field for communities of color and to ensure fair lending practices for every American – and I’m eager to roll up my sleeves to work together to make gains in the future.”
